VIOLET THE PILOT BY STEVE BREEN Publishers Review: By the time she's two years old, Violet Van Winkle can fix nearly any appliance in the house. And by eight she's building elaborate flying machines from scratch, mind-boggling contraptions such as the Tubbubbler, the Bicycopter, and the Wing-a-ma-jig. The kids at school tease her, but they have no idea what she's capable of. Maybe she could earn their respect by winning the blue ribbon in the upcoming Air Show. Or maybe something even better will happen, something involving her best ever invention, a Boy Scout troop in peril, and even the mayor himself! Where to find Violet the Pilot: Copies of Violet the Pilot can be checked out from our PCE Library. Can be purchased from Amazon.com and other booksellers. Read aloud videos can be found at YouTube.com and TeacherTube.com. Happy reading! STEAM Design Challenge of the MonthViolet the Pilot works hard to take flight and earn the blue ribbon in the air show. Be creative with any supplies of your choice and help Violet take flight by designing an air worthy prototype. Make sure your design is flight worthy for Violet to fly in the air show and record your design taking flight. Bring in your airplane between September 18th-22nd, to display in the PCE Library. You may also e-mail a short video to [email protected], which could be featured on our library and school social media sites and our morning announcements! Good luck, Falcons! We hope all of our Falcons will choose to participate in these STEAM challenges, which incorporate
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, and provide our Falcon families a chance to spend quality time as they learn and have fun together! Please understand these monthly Challenges are optional, though we hope you can try at least one of our Challenges this school year! Be sure to watch for next month's STEAM Challenge!
